Academic transcript

What it is

An official record of the subjects you studied and the grades you earned at school. Universities use it to judge your academic performance and to confirm you completed (or will complete) your studies.

Checklist

  • Request official copies from your school's registrar or administration office.
  • Make sure the document includes your grading scale (e.g. what the maximum grade is).
  • Get a certified translation into English if the original is in another language.
  • Have it notarized or officially stamped/sealed if the university requires it.
  • Check how many copies each university needs and whether they must be sealed.
  • Scan a clean, high-quality PDF and keep both digital and physical copies.
  • Request transcripts early — schools can take weeks to issue them.

Sample transcript format (Kazakhstan school example). Your official transcript must be signed and stamped by your school counsellor or principal.
