How to Apply

A simple, step-by-step guide to applying to universities — from building your list to accepting an offer. Follow the steps in order, or jump to the part you need.

Note: These steps are numbered for clarity, but you don't have to follow them strictly in order. In reality, most of them happen in parallel — for example, you'll often be researching universities, preparing documents, and studying for exams at the same time. We actually recommend working on several steps simultaneously to save time. Use this as a roadmap, not a strict checklist.
  1. 1

Research universities & choose your list

Start by exploring universities and shortlisting the ones that fit your goals, budget, and grades. Not sure where to begin? Our Find your university tool matches you to options based on your profile.
  2. 2

    Check requirements & deadlines

For each university on your list, open its page to see admission notes, required documents, scholarships, and deadlines. Note every deadline early — they vary by country and program, and some have early rounds.
  3. 3

Prepare for exams (SAT / IELTS / TOEFL / national exams)

Many universities ask for standardized or language test scores. Find out which ones your choices need, then make a study plan with enough time to retake if needed. Helpful videos:

  4. 4

    Prepare your documents

Get your transcripts, certificates, recommendation letters, and ID ready. Our Documents section explains each one, gives a checklist, and provides copyable templates and samples.
  5. 5

Write your essays / personal statement

A strong, genuine personal statement can set you apart. Plan it early, tell your real story, and revise it several times. Helpful videos:

  6. 6

Submit your application & track it

Submit before each deadline, then keep everything organized in one place. Use the application tracker to record statuses, mark which documents are ready, and never miss a date.
  7. 7

After applying — interviews, offers & scholarships

Some programs invite you to an interview — practice with our AI Interview Mock so you walk in confident. Then compare your offers and their scholarship/funding terms before you decide where to go.
